There was a time back in 2011 I used to be holding at least 30+ domain names from Godaddy, right now I have none from Godaddy.
I started using Godaddy 8 years back during my 1st job. I used to buy 2-3 domains every month the day paycheck got credited my bank account, It’s not the case now.

Here are the top 5 reasons why you shouldn’t be buying from Godaddy anymore:

1 – Pricing

Godaddy is overpriced. Yes, it is! It lures you with schemes & offers which are in the end overpricing.
In sales, there’s a saying if you can’t convince the customer to confuse them. So Godaddy does that very well!

Let’s take a simple case. If I were to buy a domain “ultralightdomains.com” & I choose Godaddy.
Godaddy on the search page says .com for Rs. 149/- only, but when we go to the Cart page it changes the pricing & adds up add-ons which are un-necessary & un-wanted.

Domain cost 1st year (only 1 year) – Rs. 849/- + taxes. & domain privacy : Rs. 499/- + taxes.
Also, Godaddy renewals are highly-priced from the 2nd year onwards.

If you buy the same thing at other places
NameCheap.com – Rs. 631/- per year with the same renewal cost.
Name.com – $7.99/- per year with the same renewal cost.

2 – Renewals are expensive

Yes, Godaddy renewals are even more expensive than the first time purchase of domains, shared hosting, SSL, even for Virtual private servers.
Usually, a domain renews at a standard price but at Godaddy, it renews at a higher price than the usual & compared to the other domain providers.

Also, in some cases Shared Hosting, Virtual Private Servers & even SSL Certificates are double the price what they were sold in the first place. Recently, I had a client who had bought the Godaddy Virtual Private Server(VPS) for his renowned Pharma brand in India. He bought the VPS for Rs. 28,000/- for 2 years initially. After the completion of 2 years, he consulted me on renewing Godaddy VPS as the renewal cost what Godaddy was showing now was Rs. 48,000/- + taxes for 1 year which was insane & double the price we paid for 2 years initially.
I suggested the client move to Amazon Web Services Lightsail & he’s on it since last 1.5 years now.

3 – Pathetic Customer Service

A friend of mine who also happens to have a web development just like me. Had a very terrible experience with Godaddy customer support. One fine morning his VPS Hosting which had 52 websites hosted of his clients had stopped working & he as the customer of Godaddy didn’t get any email / SMS notification that they have stopped his Server for some security reasons.
After he & his team getting on a call with the Godaddy customer support for 2 days consecutively for hours they were able to start his VPS stating that there was malware on his VPS.
Even the basic problems which are usually faced while hosting, domains Godaddy customer support has never been able to give a proper solution. The Customer Support team has been very well trained to just up-sell the users with extra add-ons & services.

Update: Godaddy might have upgraded their customer support executives & might have done improvements in these areas in the last few years. I don’t think this reason alone is a reason to move away. But it is not the only reason to avoid GoDaddy.

4 – Hosting is just sluggish

Yes their Hosting from Shared to VPS they are very slow.
iThemes, a major WordPress theme development company, blasted GoDaddy for overselling hosting space. 
GoDaddy puts thousands of websites on a single server.
All those websites compete for server processing time and bandwidth. This causes the sites to run slow, especially if any of them are popular. 
Not only is the hosting slow but making server changes is slow as well.
A recent Research indicates 53% of people will leave a web page if it takes longer than 3 seconds to load.
So just imagine how many users will just bounce-off from your website if Godaddy servers take a lot of time to respond & your website doesn’t load in 3 seconds.

5- Too many follow-ups & sales calls for renewals & purchases.

Yes last but not the least, they have an excruciating follow up & call center policies.
They keep calling you till death.
My worst experiences are with their renewal calls/follow-ups most of the calls are automated IVR based calls which you get repeatedly for the same service renewal which you have either renewed or wish to renew it later as there’s quite a lot of time.
Another thing which I hate about Godaddy calls their customer support executives don’t ever pick up the calls or long waiting period before you connect with a customer support executive for your query but they see to it their customer support executive are free to bug customers up when they don’t have any problems by calling them & saying it’s service information call.
